An abstract strategy card game described as a cross between dominoes and poker cards. Each player holds a deck of two-sided cards in their own colour — each card has a value, a suit shape in the centre and edge shapes around the outside. On each turn, a player places one of their outermost cards onto the growing shared board, overlapping another card so the edge shapes align. At the end of the game, players score one point for every visible dot on their cards. The player with the most visible dots wins. Multiple game variants include free-play, team play and speed modes. Waterstones' Game of the Month for April 2026.
Because abstract strategy games are some of the most enduring and replayable games available, and Tacta is particularly elegant — the spatial thinking required to place cards and maximise visible dots is genuinely engaging, and the multiple game variants keep it fresh. Waterstones' Game of the Month is a serious endorsement.
